Christchurch's Name

Christchurch was named by the Canterbury Association in 1848 and it was officially established on July 31 1856. The official Maori name for Christchurch is Otautahi.

Fun Places

Christchurch has many fun places like indoor places: Canterbury Museum, Air force museum, Caddyshack mini putt,  Bouncy sports: Flip Out, Mega Air, QE II swimming pool, Outside activities: Orana wildlife park, Willow bank Wildlife reserve, Botanic gardens, Bottle lake forest, McLean's Island, and Hagly park.

Historical Sites

Some of the historical sites in Christchurch are: Mona Vale, Ferrymead heritage park,
Riccarton house & Riccarton bush.

In Christchurch there are a lot of fun activities some history behind everything, Christchurch is an amazing place to go and I love it here!

Giving friendly feedback!

This week and last week my reading group joined the What do you mean reading group. We were reading The Prince and The Albatross Egg. Our task was to write a short summary and then we chose some one to give feedback on. I chose my friend Isla.
This is what I said when I gave feedback:

I really like the way you kept the main parts in you summary.
Isla next time you write a summary try to remember where your a's and an's go.
Isla you have used your correct speech marks in one place but not the other, for a title you wouldn’t use “  “ you would use ‘  ‘ and also remember for a question you need to use a ? at the end.
Remember that the teachers didn’t say out loud that you would never eat a albatross egg.

Please give me feedback on if I kept my comments positive!

Summary on The Prince and The Albatross Egg

This week and last week the News Reporters (my reading group) joined the What do you mean reading group and we were reading the prince and the albatross egg. Our task was to write a short summary about the text so here is mine I hope you enjoy reading it!

This week we are reading The Prince and the Albatross egg.
It is about children from Dunedin and Wellington getting together to learn how to use the TV to contact each other so that they can share their Ideas. Prince Charles came to see them and ask them questions about their topic for their project. He asked a few questions about the royal albatross because that was the kids topic and he wanted to know a little bit more about albatrosses. Then there was a weird question from the prince but he said it only because he didn’t know how protected they are in New Zealand and only one person new the answer but they didn’t say a word.
The prince soon left and waved goodbye then he was gone.

If you could please comment on my work I would love that, and please give me feedback on if I have told what you think are the main points and not to much of things that aren't main points.

Making poems

This is my work making poems. This is the finished project but we did have a hole table for planing.
I hope you enjoy!

Now write your poem here

PIE
He is a kind gentle animated cartoon character with a big red smile,
His eyes are black and cold as if all the happiness had gone from the world but he is still a nice little boy,
Pie and more pie is what his breath smells like,
He walks slowly with his body as a giant mixed berry pie with black arms and legs,
He wears a tight blue jeans, a black coat full of pies, and a bright blue tie,

His voice is soft gentle and very very deep.

This is my reading work from term 1 week 6. I did my blooms tasks and I had to do a video of my group doing some hip hop moves that I might put on my blog later this term.

Reading
Hip hop moves
Analysing b
Comparing the characters.

Evaluation a
Rating the text

I would rate this text a 2, because I didn’t like the fact that it was all about hip hop and that is not my thing. I also didn’t like the first task that we had to do. As well as that I like non fiction books.

Application a
Writing a what am I?

You can hear me,
You an see me,
I am not alive,
I can not move on my own,
I can keep you calm,
But sometimes I can swear.
What am I?

Comprehension c
Writing a summary
In this text Astrid was shy at her dance and she copied Libby at the front leading the dance hip hop group. Astrid soon felt good in her place with the rest of her group. Then she got really confident, and kept going with her dance in front of the class. She got so confident she was ready for her auditions the next day.

Knowledge a
Listing five main things that happened in the text

  • Astrid arrived at her dance.
  • Astrid tried going at the front of the class.
  • She got rid of her fears.
  • She got ready and confident for her auditions.
